Mel and Carol Butler

Mel, the founder of Butler Tax and Accounting, began his accounting career in 1967 under the expert tutelage of his well-respected CPA father, Boyd F. Butler. While obtaining his degree from the University of Utah, he worked along side his father preparing income tax returns in client’s homes and doing basic accounting for various businesses. Carol was Mel’s “at home” secretary scheduling appointments and keeping the home office organized while caring for their seven children. In 1972 Mel also obtained his real estate license, and later in 1978 received his real estate broker license. Mel has been serving his clients for 42 years in taxes and accounting and over 37 years in real estate. Since the beginning of his business it has grown steadily and has expanded to include many additional well-trained professionals.

Mel and Carol are retiring and have now been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wellington, New Zealand. They are turning over the business and all responsibilities to their three skilled and personable sons, Paul, Mark and Russell.

Mel comments, “The past 42 years have been a wonderful experience for me. We have especially enjoyed working with and serving so many wonderful people whom we have grown to love and respect over the years, and I will miss them dearly. However, I am very grateful that I can take “my secretary” with me in retirement. We have, and continue to have, a “love affair” that has lasted over those same 42 years!

“We are leaving our business in very capable and experienced hands, and we know that the same expertise and service our clients have come to value, appreciate and expect will continue on without interruption. After all, they are “Butlers” too, and “Butler” means “Service”!
